    1. More! More! Can't wait to read MORE by this author!Have been finding mediocre reads lately and happened upon this one and can't remember the last novella I've enjoyed this much. Well written, engaging plot and characters, and an author's voice that wouldn't let me put it down. All this and an unpredictable ending were not the only "gifts" from Brooks. This author's gives 110% by including invaluable tips about visiting Paris as well. Thank you, Valerie Brooks!

    2. Deliciously macabre! Sure to appeal to noir and mystery fans, this tale of love and revenge is fast-paced and, as if the story itself isn’t enough, Brooks gives her readers an armchair trip around Paris. She puts the cherry on top for them by adding Back Pages with travel trips for an actual visit to Paris. A worthy debut for her Noir Travel Stories Series.

    3. New Year’s in Paris sounds like a dream, but in this contemporary noir novel it’s just the beginning of a swirling nightmare for a smart and impulsive protagonist. Angeline Porter is a criminal lawyer. She knows crime when she sees it, and she’s used to seeking justice in a court room. When she finds her sister Sophie dead from suicide, she’s overwhelmed with emotion and determined to blame someone. She settles on a likely suspect, Sophie’s French lover, and makes plans to execute her o [...]

    4. A tough, exciting, page-turning thriller that features clear, crisp prose, dialogue that never strikes a false note, and a seamless sense of pace. By gradually coercing the reader into questioning the narrator's reliability, Valerie Brooks adds a delicious twist to the increasingly tense proceedings.

    5. Well this book was a surprise. I received it free as part of my Prime membership and I am glad I selected it. The story kept you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I kept hoping that Angeline would see her mistakes and just move on BUT she had to go through the process in her own way. The ending was a surprise. Good writing and challenging series. She travels to Paris as part of the story but at the end of the book, the author gives lots of tips for where to go in Paris, where to eat, [...]

    6. This book was given to me by a friend who was nauseated by the "twist" ending (aka something only the main character was too stupid to figure out) and who asked for my opinion regarding its categorization as noir. This is noir (aka Roman noir, literally "black novel" in French) as envisioned by someone who has only read the entry, which starts long after the term came into use, and who perverts the genre. The only thing that's dark is the inside of the evil, stupid, selfish, alcoholic protagoni [...]

    7. This is a terrific read. Clever and full of twists and turns. The reader is always wondering what comes next. An intelligent lawyer for a protagonist who manages to project her belief in the ultimate fairness of life into a downward spiral. How does she manage the desperately terrible situations she encounters? Or does she? Read Revenge in Paris and find out.

    8. I loved this story. I'm actually reading it in Paris. It held my attention the whole time. Great descriptions of Paris and a tense story of love and revenge with a twist.

    9. This perfectly-paced Noir Classic had me from the first page. If you're looking for a short page-turner and some armchair time on the streets of Paris, you have arrived. Valerie J. Brooks' Noir shorts deliver it all: good pacing, thrilling locations, twisty endings! And if you like Ross McDonald, you'll love Brooks' style. I can hardly wait for the next one!
