    1. If you liked The Valiant then this is a really enjoyable sequel! It delivered on pretty much every aspect I wanted to see. A lot of it builds off the last book and what Fallon saw towards the end, so I don't want to spoil that. Otherwise, there's a rebellion brewing here and Fallon's viewed as a leader of rebels, which makes her a political liability for Caesar. Her potential power also makes her a pawn "in a much greater game a distraction and a bargaining chip." She and her fellow gladiatrices [...]

    2. The Valiant was one of my favorite new YA books of 2017. The concept was fascinating imagining the existence of a training school devoted to making women into gladiatrices. It felt fresh with high stakes. Any predictable moments didn't bother me because the story held its own. I'm beginning to think this should've been left as a standalone becauseThe Defiant didn't do anything for me. In fact. excited as I was to dive back into this world, the excitement slowly dwindled down as I got into the st [...]

    3. 4.5* This series is so good! I was hooked from book one with a female gladiator on the cover. As soon as I started reading the first book I wanted a trilogy right away! The sequel was very good but I did like the first book better but that seems to be normal in a lot of trilogies. I however CANNOT wait for next year’s third book to come out (even though the second just came out last week). This series and these characters are so entertaining! I just know the third book is going to be ridiculou [...]

    4. 5 of 5 stars at The BiblioSanctum bibliosanctum/2018/01/20/I adored the first book—finally, a Young Adult novel I was really hyped up for that didn’t disappoint me—but this sequel was even better. I think it’s safe to say if you enjoyed The Valiant, then The Defiant will continue to impress.Warning: possible spoilers for the first book if you haven’t read it yet! Our series protagonist, Fallon, has gone from Celtic princess to captured slave to Rome’s most beloved gladiatrix, but now [...]

    5. Review from Tenacious Reader: tenaciousreader/2018/04.5/5 StarsI’ll be honest, I read The Valiant by Lesley Livingston pretty much on a whim last year. It wasn’t a book that was on my radar until after it was released, which is unusual. I read a couple of glowing reviews for it for that essentially made me set my review books to the side because it sounded so good. I was glad I did because it just happened to have everything I love and in just the right amounts. I am very happy to tell you t [...]

    6. So I just spend the entire day on a financial report for this crazy project I'm working on for uni, and it was almost fun to do but because I listened to this audiobook. It was so addicting, I read it in one sitting. I've been waiting for this book for a year, and now I'll have to spend another year highly anticipating the next one

    7. The much acclaimed sequel to The Valiant started off with a bang regarding a competition between the two rival gladiator academies happening for the benefit of a bored Cleopatra. Fallon and her friends battle the s, ultimately winning the reenactment and achieving the crowds approval. The following day, Cai and two members of his legion appear at the academy and Fallon is reunited with her boyfriend after so many months. Everything in her world seems to be going smoothly: her friends, her boyfri [...]

    9. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*My wonderful group of gladiatrix returns! I really enjoyed the sequel of "The Valiant" with the action, the romance and the mystery! Fallon is the star gladiatrix of her ludus with her sister and her fellow warriors ready to enjoy a life of freedom. But when folly forces them to escape, followed by Cai and his friend Quintus, they will discover a plan to even overthrow Ceasar himself. With cameo appearances of Cleopatra, sea travel to an island of 's' an [...]

    10. Ik vond dit boek weer echt te gek! Net zoals het eerste deel. Het is echt een Fight like a girl boek met een hoop bad-ass meiden!!! Zeker een aanrader dus.

    11. 4 StarsA good continuation to the series. I can't wait to see what next book has to offer. Although I guess I have to for once since it's not out yet.

    12. Loved this! Just like I loved The Valiant. While there wasn’t as much bloodshed as I would have liked it was still fantastic. I can’t wait for The Triumphant!!

    13. What a great sequel! Ancient Rome and fierce, female gladiators and a super cute romance loved it! I can’t say the books are anything groundbreaking, but they’re right up my alley so I was totally entertained.

    15. ”Not in strength are we inferior to men” she said, “the same our eyes, our limbs the same; one common light we see, one air we breathe. What then denied to us have the gods on men bestowed? So good! I like this series so much. And I really don’t know what it is. Because this is not the book to pick up if you want really complex characters, unpredictable plot, political intrigue, deaths blood and violence. There is all of that. But it’s not so deeply explored. It feels sometimes like a [...]

    16. 4,5 I Would Defeat Them All Stars I had no idea where the author could take this story in the second book, after the ending in the previous one. Everything was great, Fallon and her sister's Ludus were victorious, everyone was happy. Wellt for long. This book really surprised me. It was great to see all the girls on the next mission, but so different from the previous book.“All I ever wanted was to follow in my sister’s footsteps and join my father’s royal war band. Warriors, Elka. Not sol [...]

    17. "Even if we're too late for rescue, we'll still be right on time for revenge."4 Stars, or should I say swords? (bad pun Esmay, very bad)Ever since I read The Valiant, I knew I would pick this book up as soon as it came out and let me tell you I am not dissapointed. I do have to say that somethings were predictable, yet I did not find them annoying. I was quite sad about some plottwists, but they were very nicely done and while I had seen it coming, I was said nonetheless. What I also really enjo [...]

    18. I wavered between a 2 and a 3 so I guess my rating is a 2.5.Two stars from me is a book that is “okay” and that pretty much sums up how I feel about this book. I didn’t connect with the characters, so it was hard to care when they were hurt or killed. There were a lot of deaths in this one, but I was so detached from the characters that I didn’t really care what happened to them. The political scene was a bit confusing as well, and since that was basically the whole book, it was hard to [...]

    19. *Source* Library*Genre* Young Adult, Historical Fantasy*Rating* 3.5-4*Thoughts*The Defiant is the second but not last installment in author Lesley Livingston's The Valiant series. They call Fallon "Victrix" now. Victory. But winning the highest honor ever bestowed upon a gladiatrix in Rome has earned Fallon more deadly enemies outside the arena than she ever faced within it. And it is those dearest to Fallon who will pay the price for her success. Now, Fallon and her warrior sisters of Ludus Ach [...]

    20. 3.5/5I loved The Valiant, but somehow the second book didn't impress me as much as I hoped it would. The Defiant was still enjoyable and entertaining to read, but it never managed to draw me in fully. The story was sound and simple and the plot was a bit too predictable at times. Otherwise, I'm still pleased with Livingston's world of gladiatrices and will be looking forward to the third book in the series.

    21. SUCH A GOOD BOOK!!I am highly enjoying this series. It's romantic, action packed and has some great characters that I have become very attached to! I cannot wait to see what the next book has in store!!

    22. Review also on Christina Reads and BlogsWarning: There may be spoilers for The Valiant. If you have not read this book and do not wish to be spoiled, please don’t read this! Thank you.The Defiant is a packed, complex sequel to The Valiant. While some people may like the immediate action and deception, it really put me off for most of the book and I didn't care to continue at some points. I did, and I'm glad in the long run, but sometimes I felt like reading faster just so I could get to the n [...]

    23. I’ve been waiting to get my hands on The Defiant since the moment I finished The Valiant. Not only does Lesley Livingston write a fantastic story but she had me totally invested in these characters and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next for them. Don’t hate me for being slightly vague with this review – I don’t want to ruin this book for anyone and that means there are some things I can’t say…trust me, you will thank me for it. The Defiant picks up shortly after The Valiant [...]

    24. 3.5/5 A triumphant ending, like one would expect.Fallon had grown so much, had truly become a leader out of dire situations. Possibly, even surpassed her sister. I didn't like some of the characters development. I never knew if Aeddan was good or bad, even till the very last second. I would never trust someone that would kill his own brother. Similarly, (view spoiler)[ Varro, turned out completely different. He was such a gentlement and forseeable a good father figure for Fallon.(hide spoiler)]B [...]

    25. THIS WAS SO GOOD my heart almost exploded when I thought the accusations against Cai were true. I adore my little cinnamon roll and I can’t even think ill of him.I do so hope the he and Fallon will marry in the next book 😻😻I loved Sorcha’s rescueI abhorred Leander’s death And Aeddan; I think he redeemed himself by the end of the book.It was so cute watching Quint and kallista.Plus, I think I ship quint and Elka.
