    1. BJORN'S GIFT is book two in Sandy Brehl's MG trilogy. Don't miss the first one: ODIN'S PROMISE. BJORN"S GIFT is sensitive, compassionate, and honest portrayal of a Norwegian family coping the aftermath of Nazi invasion. Brehl masterfully weaves together a story of danger, sacrifice, and hope, one that flows so seamlessly that readers will forget Bjorn’s Gift is fiction.Outstanding! This trilogy belongs in every middle school! Brava, Sandy!

    2. Bjorn's Gift is a sequel to Odin's Promise (my review) and continues the story of Mari, now 12, and her family living in Norway under Nazi occupation since it was invaded in April 1940. Bjorn's Gift begins in August 1941. Mari is still mourning the loss of her beloved dog Odin, killed by a Nazi trying to protect her, her older brother Bjorn is in hiding, working with the Norwegian resistance, and older sister Lise lives in Oslo with her new husband. As the number of Germans occupying Mari's vill [...]

    3. A couple of years ago, I was a first round Cybils judge for Middle Grade realistic fiction, so I had the chance to read a lot of new, independent fiction that I never would have discovered otherwise. One of the books, Odin's Promise by Sandy Brehl, is the story of a young girl and her beloved dog, Odin, living in Norway during the Nazi occupation during World War II. The sequel - the second in a planned trilogy! - continues the story of Mari and her family, living under the tightening yoke of th [...]

    4. This sequel to Odin's Promise, is set in Norway during World War 2. Mari, a young woman, is still working to find herself, and her courage, in this new world she has found herself in, as even more Nazi's have come to live in her village and have even taken over her home and school. This has made it much harder for the resistance fighters in her area, one of which is her big brother Bjorn. But Mari will be strong, and brave just like Bjorn told her she could. This is a awesome historical fiction [...]

    5. Brehl hits it out the park again with the continuation of Mari's life in German occupied Norway. I learned so much about history and it was fun, dangerous, cunning, and real. Mari experiences the peril of resisting Nazi-induced change in her small village. I can't wait to read the next installment of Brehl's trilogy.

    6. This is the second in a trilogy about a young girl's struggle dealing with the German invasion of Norway during WWII. Mari is determined to help the cause against Hitler and his regime. Her family is in danger as is her entire little village whom the Germans have taken over. They are told to help the German soldiers or pay the consequences. An excellent story to sink your chops into and learn about how others were affected by this terrible time in world history. Written by Sandy Brehl, published [...]

    7. A delightful sequel to Odin's Promise, this book is set in German-occupied Norway during WWII. A fresh take on that massive conflict, the story follows young Mari as she balances friends and family, growing up, and painful loyalties, all while doing everything she can to help with the resistance. A book for quiet, shy readers that will be loved by the ones who crave action, as well. Full spotlight--plus the cat's two cents--on my blog, and happy reading!

    8. I liked Bjorn's Gift better than the first book of this trilogy, because the story contained more suspense and less dog saliva. Brehl introduces more characters, and although they don't all stay long and she glosses over some of them more quickly than I wish, some of them surprise the reader and hold out the promise of intriguing and evolving relationships. Although I don't anticipate any cheesy happy endings, I hope to learn what happened to the neighbor, Mr. Meier, who disappears early in Odin [...]
