    1. Read as an alternate to the unavailable Newbery Honor book Lone Journey: The Life of Roger Williams. Unfortunately it's so very short that all it did was whet my appetite to learn more about the remarkable rebel. Avi's version is told from the POV of Williams' daughter. I had never thought of him as having a family turns out, when he escaped Boston so as not to be sent back to England, he left wife and daughter behind. Fortunately they were (apparently) not punished (except for losing their prov [...]

    3. Wow! Avi does it again. Finding Providence: The Story of Roger Williams is a perfect gem when it comes to historical bio-fiction for children. The story is unfamiliar to most, so it's fresh rather than feeling like another rehashing of the same old thing. The bonus--it's written at the "easy reader" level. Who could ask for more?

    4. A well told story about Roger Williams, a few of his beliefs and the founding of Providence, Rhode Island. You'll learn too, that the city received it's name because Williams felt "God's merciful providence" was bestowed upon him.Reading Level: 3rd - 4th grades**Like my reviews? I also have hundreds of detailed reports that I offer too. These reports give a complete break-down of everything in the book, so you'll know just how clean it is or isn't. I also have Clean Guides (downloadable PDFs) wh [...]

    5. This was written from the view point of Roger Williams's child. This is the story of Roger Williams and how he had to flee from his home because of him not agreeing with the religious policy. The story tells of how he was discovered by Indians who found him to be a friend and how he discovered Providence because of this happening. i would recommend this book for students around a third grade reading level.

    6. Since I just finished reading Something Upstairs I thought that I would follow a theme and read the other book by Providence, Rhode Island written by Avi that I got from the library. This is a great first chapter book that is also a good story and introduction for little ones to a great man, Roger Williams. As I read it I kept pondering on just what Roger Williams might think of the nation today
