    1. "The hope of Tibet" by José Vicente Alfaro is one of the most beautiful books I have read in a long time, and I will have to read it again. It is that beautiful. Having traveled Tibet myself I could "see" Alvaro's beautiful descriptions of this mysterious and beautiful country, though it is changing. The more precious is this story. " In Tibet, the barrenness of fields full of stones and the infinite wealth of pasture-rich lands coexisted under the same relentless sun"Alvaro's story takes place [...]

    4. A realistic historical fiction revolving around the life of Buddhism in Tibet during the 13th century. A well written plot filled with emotions that could touch anyone’s heart. The captivating and believable story revolving around the life of peasant family who was threatened by the assault of the Mongol army, is forced to leave their home village and set out on a journey filled with hardships and unseen consequences, and what the future holds for them. The novel is truly a classic drama with v [...]

    5. A stunning journey through a spiritual land to discover truth inside all of usThis book was a truly stunning journey through a spiritual land to discover truth inside all of us. The author has done a fantastic job of weaving a stunning tale of truth and spirituality throughout his tale of a young boy and his struggle to achieve his destiny against the many adversities of life that are thrown at him. I found the text to be beautiful at setting the scene and location of the story, although I also [...]

    6. LovelyBecause instead this on my Kindle, I have no idea how long it actually was, but it went by far too quickly. It felt like a particularly lush and enjoyable short story. I enjoyed the story itself, well written and obviously well translated (no small thing). I also learned a great deal and was inspired to do my own research to learn more, which I think is a sign of good historical fiction. In particular, I was moved by the story of the brothers. Having two very different sons who are very cl [...]

    9. Fascinating and well pacedMuch suspense in a story of the search for the reincarnation of the head of the Buddhist religion.Precise, detailed, this makes for a fascinating reading.Endearing characters in extraordinary settings, this story is very entertaining. I highly recommend.

    11. Wonderful!I can't praise this book enough. Clear concise writing. Wonderful rendition of the search for the incarnation of a Dahli Lama.

    13. ExcellentThis is a compelling read, written for the lay reader who may not have strong background in Buddhism. I highly recommend it.

    14. What a wonderful book! What a wonderful book! My only wish is that it were longer, so that I could keep on reading it!

    17. The hope of Tibet is a very beautiful spiritual novel that would spell bound you and yet stimulate your rationality and spirituality. The background is the treacherous Himalayan terrains that is both a protector and a destroyer. The author provides a lot of background history on Tibet and on Buddhism. The Buddhism that I have read about tells me that Siddhartha or Gautam Buddha remained silent on the topic of rebirths. Yet, it is now evident that the Buddhist monks have a deep belief in incarnat [...]

    18. This story is set in a district of Tibet at the time of Kublai Khan, and effectively describes one of the most important events in history. Whether it is true is another matter, and I am in no position to know. Basically, Kublai Khan has decided that his empire needs a religion, Marco Polo has arrived and is trying to convince him that Christianity is the way to go, and a Buddhist monk has tried to promote Buddhism. A leading Buddhist priest had died, and according to their beliefs, he will be r [...]

    23. The Hope of Tibet follows several merging story lines at the centre of which are two brothers and three lamas searching for the reincarnation of their beloved leader. They live in the turbulent times of Kublai Khan and Marco Polo. Finding the reincarnated leader could mean the difference between the spread of Buddhism throughout Asia and their annihilation. Along the way, I also learned more about the history of Buddhism. It is a lovely story and I recommend it!

    26. I loved this book, because it was such an amazing story of love, hope & faith. I had no problem following the story, and it keep me intrigued the entire time I was reading. I could have read on & on about the characters, and I do hope that the story continues someday. The author did a wonderful job of weaving the story, and it was truly a pleasure to read.

    27. Me encantó!! Gracias JVAlfaro

    28. What a wonderful book. If you have any interest in Buddhism, historical fiction, or other countries you probably won't ever travel to, this book is for you. My only complaint is: it was over before I wanted it to be over !!
