    1. OutstandingPage-TurningBreathtakingShockingTautTension-filledBrilliant!BetrayalI adore Linda Huber's writing, I have been a fan ever since reading The Cold Cold Sea and always get excited at the chance to read a new book from Linda. One of those hugely underestimated and under-noticed authors in my opinion. WellI hope this one goes to the top of the best-seller list because it deserves to. THIS is her best work in my humble reviewers opinion. Stunning fiction.Take two storylines and find the mos [...]

    2. Traileryoutu/vEVbY7H0CkoThe very first book I read by this author Linda Huber was The Cold Cold Sea, if you look at reviews on that book, you will see how many loved it.I was included in that and couldn't wait for her next book. Here it is!I love the colour of the cover and the details on the book cover too.Chosen Child This focuses around Rick and Ella. They find they are unable to have children of their own so give thoughts into adoption. Both have different outlooks on this. Rick wanted a boy. [...]

    3. Rick and Ella are a married couple unable to have children of their own so they decide to adopt. Rick is quite set on what he wants, a little boy. They attend an adoption party where adults mingle and play with children who are available for adoption and Ella is completely taken by a six year old girl, Soraya. How will this work out, will Rick adapt to a six year old girl rather than the little boy he wanted? How well do we really know our partners? In a second story line Amanda who has a one ye [...]

    4. Rick & Ella are childless so they decide to adopt Rick wants a boy but Ella wants a girl so when they see the child of their dreams Ella seeks adoption of Soraya straight away, she & Rick visit her often & Soraya becomes very close to Ella, meanwhile Rick's enthusiasm wains & he concentrates on work he is more married to the job than compromising with Ella.Meanwhile Amanda who is pregnant with her second child had an affair she would rather forget she has a son Jaden & is hap [...]

    5. My heart went out to Ella throughout this book. Desperate to have a child but unable to so when her and Rick start the ball rolling in adopting six year old Soraya I was so happy for her. Sadly though I knew from the genre of the book that things wouldn’t be plain sailing.Rick I couldn’t work out at first but the more I got to know him the more my opinion of him changed. He is very self centred and at times I could have happily given him more than a slap!Soraya I absolutely adored. Reading o [...]

    6. ***** 5 Family Broken Stars ***** I absolutely love a book that writing a review is nearly impossible because of the layers the author has twisted together in a neat little "what's going to happen next" page grabber.Life is not always what it seams no matter how hard you try to have a happy, normal marriage and life. This book is a tale of a marriage gone wrong and how the shattered pieces can't be buried for long until the shards of deception slice open the hearts of everyone.Marriage and family [...]

    7. Two women: Amanda, married with a fourteen month old baby, who is having an affair. Ella, married but so far unable to conceive and undergoing the rigorous checks to adopt. When Amanda's husband, Gareth, comes home earlier than expected the resulting events change everything for both women forever. I absolutely loved this psychological thriller as the plot rather expertly manoeuvred to affect both women when initially I couldn't see how they were going to be linked. The strength of the story in t [...]

    8. A special thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.Talented Linda Huberreturns following The Paradise Trees, The Cold Cold Sea, and The Attic Room, with another intriguing mysterious domestic psychological suspense. THE CHOSEN CHILDA novel of desire. Obsessions. Dangerous games. Secrets. Lies. Highly charged topics of adoption and motherhood. An innocent little girl caught in the cross-fires. Do you really know your husband? A family mystery. Ella and Rick want a baby. [...]

    9. What a great read, Two wifes stories and the their husband entwine in this story. This is one of the best non crime, crime stories I have read in a very long time. Intriguing, compelling pick your own superlatives for this one they will fit. This would be a great Book Club read, so many points to discuss once read. I am crying out for more from Linda Huber.

    10. This was picked as a 'read along' for one of the Facebook groups I am a member of. I enjoyed this story, it is a well written thriller with many emotional twists and turns. Having just heard what the authors next book is about when released in Autumn I'm looking forward to reading that too now!.

    11. First of all I have to say….The cover! how stunning is it! After seeing the cover that has buy me written all over it I couldn't wait to read this book. After it ending up sitting on my TBR pile for far too long and I actually wish I had read it sooner this is without a doubt an OMG book I couldn't read it fast enough it grabs you right from the start. without a doubt it is unputdownable….I freaking loved it. In this story we meet Ella who longs for a child of her own, but a gruesome find du [...]

    12. Wow what a roller coaster of emotions that I went through reading this. An unusual set up for a crime, but brilliantly thought out Domestic Noir crime read, at it's best.I nearly had palpitations at times for the characters whether in a positive or negative light. Loved the tension and what if until the next and next chapter, extremely engaging and a fabulous page turner.

    13. I do realise that this author has a fair few fans on here whose opinions I respect however this really wasn't for me. I found the plot pretty basic. The characters were unremarkable and, for me, there simply was no tension. I got to 50% before I flicked to the end but it still didn't grab me.

    14. I really like those books that keep my attention until the very last page, and that's exactly what happened with The Chosen Child. I appreciated the topic and the plot but the characters seemed somehow cold, especially Amanda. The ending disappointed me a little because to me it felt like everything that had happened made no sense at this point. That's the reason I only gave it 3 stars: it's a nice read for those who like this genre but it's nothing extraordinary.

    15. This book gets into its cracking pace early on, in fact soon after Rick and Ella attend an adoption party to meet children who are ready to be adopted. Things aren’t straightforward though, Rick has fixed ideas on the type of child he wants to adopt; a young white boy without any health issues whereas Ella is hoping to find a child she feels that magical connection with. Adoption isn’t an easy process to go through and Ella is desperate to keep their social worker Linda on side and it doesn [...]

    16. I would've given this book 1 star but thought again because I actually couldn't stop reading it. I liken it to the Kardashians, for example, a fascination with the abominable. I disliked the three main characters immensely. Rick/James: Self-centered, narcissistic, vow-breaking husband. Anyone who wasn't blind could tell he was uninterested in adopting Soraya. His continued reference to "super mummy" and his wife's focus on the child rather than on him was irritating. (Being an attorney prosecuti [...]

    17. Review first posted on thebookreviewcafeThis is the first book I have read by Linda Huber, but it’s safe to say it won’t be my last, oh what a tangled web the author weaves, she certainly can tell a good story, and it certainly wasn’t a predictable tale. Chosen Child has two plots, centred around two families, leading two very different lives. Ella and her husband Rick are desperate to adopt, and Amanda and her husband Gareth are expecting their second child, what’s so tangled about that [...]

    18. I've never read any novels by Linda Huber before but I fell in love with this cover and I was delighted when the author offered me a copy for review.Chosen Child is a cleverly woven psychological suspense novel and I was soon caught up in the story.Ella and Rick are hoping to adopt a child but despite agreeing that they would look for a baby boy, Ella finds herself falling for a six year old girl called Soraya at an adoption party. The other key character is Amanda, mother to eighteen month old J [...]

    19. I was fortunate to receive an advance copy from the author. I do read the occasional thriller, but I wouldn't call myself an avid reader of psychological suspense. The honest truth? I couldn't put this down. The story draws you into the characters' lives with a kind of compelling sense of . . . claustrophobia, almost, but you can't leave it alone because you need to know what happens to these people and how the plot plays out. I also enjoyed the Cornwall setting. If you want a suspenseful read t [...]

    20. It started off quite promising. I totally did not see the big twist coming and couldn't wait to see how it all panned out. It ended up being so repetitive (if I had to read about grey eyes one more time!) and the ending was a disappointment.

    21. I loved this book, except that I read to lull myself to sleep and this kept me awake. It’s a Cornish tale (great setting), the story of two women who are single-mindedly determined to get what they want and men blessed with fatal obstinacy. A string of wrong decisions build up, one upon the other, cutting off any way out, until inevitable disaster is set in concrete. Is it wrong to call it a black comedy? I found myself laughing ‘no, please don’t!’ time and again. Highly recommended.

    22. This was a highly polished tale of Rick and Ella, who are going through the adoption process with their forever child Soraya whose lives and destiny is entangled with Gareth whose wife Amanda is having an affair with James which will ultimately end in the worst possible way.I was hooked from the start and read this in very large chunks. No doubt I'm going to be reading a lot more from Linda Huber, as the standard she sets is very high.

    23. Wow! This story had me gripped from start to finish. The tension is almost unbearable as one awful secret leads to another. It took me in directions I didn't expect and kept me turning the pages to see how it would end. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of psychological suspense and domestic noir.

    24. This was a gripping read, difficult to put down once started. Really enjoyed the pace of this exciting, tense story. It was cleverly written and I found my sympathies switching from one character to another as the novel unfolded. Great!

    25. Another brilliant book by Linda Huber. Love the way she writes and only uses a few characters which are well defined. Lots of twists and turns and was lovely that it was set in Cornwall which is where I live.

    26. What a story! I caught myself holding my breath while reading. This book is so good! And so well told - I couldn't decide whether I wanted to truth to come out or not.I loved The Cold Cold Sea and downloaded Death Wish now. Hope I won't be disappointed as Chosen Child was the perfect read for me.

    27. Wonderful book!!!I could not put this book down. It's a real page turner with some surprises along the way. A great read!!

    28. fast moving and thoroughly enjoyed it working my way through this authors work and enjoying reading her prose
