    1. First, I have had this little book FOREVER. I got it from BookOutlet and it has a little tear in the dust jacket and until I picked it up and read it, I had no idea there was an awesome poster on the other side of the dust jacket. I will show y'all after I get it laminated, tear be damned!! Here's what it looks like though!! I freaking love it!! I fell in love with Adara who loved Winter (like me). She was cold to the touch and could play with the ice lizards and was friends with the ice dragon [...]

    2. (B+) 76% | GoodNotes: A latter-day Grimm’s tale, it’s endearing and atmospheric, though its symbolism’s peculiar and its message abstruse.

    3. Of all of George R.R Martin’s short stories this one is by far my favourite. It may be because it is the only one with dragons in it or it may be because it is an early prelude toA Song of Ice and Fire. The publishers have hinted that this is set in Westeros. It’s not. There is no mention of an actual setting, but what is does show is an early application of an idea that he eventually used in his wonderful fantasy series: it shows us dragons that are ridden into combat at the service of King [...]

    4. Stop.e.esses! A thoughtful, intelligent children's book?Yeppers, it's trueholdThe Ice Dragon. That wascally wabbit, George R. R. Martin, has done it yet again! He's written an elegant, pulchritudinous children’s/YA novella that spins a captivating tale that has the added virtue of respecting the brain matter of its readers. Well done, Ser Martin, well doneokay, you've been dipped in glory and praisifiedw get yon self back to thy scribing of the next SOIAF volume before thou ist given the slappe [...]

    5. It honestly boggles my mind that George RR Martin can write STORIES SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. So naturally I had to read it. And while I LOVE and adore the dragonnessI'm really kind of weirded out about what message it was trying to send???? So that kinda spoilt my enjoyment.BUT DRAGONS, DUDES, DRAGONS.Plus the illustrations are literally the most BEAUTIFUL things in the universe. The book is super tiny and short because it's stuffed with the most gorgeous dragon dragons of my life. Like I wanted t [...]

    6. This story left me feeling pretty haunted, so please keep that in mind and maybe read the book yourself first, before giving this to your child. I do think this story packs a pretty big punch with a pretty impactful message, even though I think the message could be misconstrued. For me, the message, or symbolism, was it is okay to be cold and alone, but sometimes it is worth it to take a risk to feel someone else's warmth, especially the love of your family. It's completely fine to deal with you [...]

    7. Because it's Game of Thrones SeasonIt's Winter SeasonAnd Because it was the season finaleAnd, Summer Child, It has an Ice Dragon

    8. If this short story wouldn’t have been written by George R.R. Martin, I wouldn’t have read it. Or, if I would have, I wouldn’t have liked it – for the simple reason that it’s basically a children’s tale and I’m not part of that age group anymore. But the story is set in Westeros. And there are dragons. If you crave any kind of information about this world, I guess you’ll be satisfied.*An enjoyable read if you are a GRRM fan and you want to get through everything that he has writt [...]

    9. I always have high expectations when reading George R.R. Martin. He really did it to himself, have you read A Game of Thrones? So going into The Ice Dragon, GRRM's children's tale, I still had nothing but the highest and happiest of attitudes until I was completely disappointed nothing at all. :DOkay, I've learned from the cases I've been reading in law school that in order to have a successful argument, all you have to do is act like you're going to decide one way, but then go the exact opposit [...]

    10. I already knew that Mr. Martin could write damn well. Not always in the most accurate way and often lacking closeness to the characters, but still engaging and allowing the reader to delve deeper into the fantasy worlds he builds so excellently. He is world-renowned because of A Game of Thrones and its sequels, but also widely criticized because of the huge amount of time it requires him to finish his next book. Yes, I understand the frustration readers have with his slow working pace. But I sti [...]

    11. Another short story that I didn't enjoy that much. Nothing new, it's probably all on me again. This middle grade novel tells a story about Adara and her struggles, or at least, the struggles of people around her. Every winter, the ice dragon comes to the place she lives in. Lucky for her, winter is the time of her birthday. She looks forward to every visit that the ice dragon does, but everyone around her hates the dragon. It brings harsh winter effects and hinders the crops to grow. In actuality [...]

    15. Fuck me. Worst reviewer ever. It's been a while since I read this and I forget what it's about. I remember it being good though. Maybe.

    17. You can read this review and more on my blogIn a nutshell: The Ice Dragon is a great fantasy read for all ages with beautiful illustrations. I picked this book up from my library in the spur of the moment. I'm a big fan of A Game of Thrones and I've been eying The Ice Dragon ever since I heard about its re-release fairly recently. It was a well-written little story set in the world of ASOIAF. The premise is a simple one but I really enjoyed reading it. The Ice Dragon is about a young girl named [...]

    19. I was shocked to see that most reviews on here of The Ice Dragon sing its praises. It makes me wonder if anyone actually comprehended the story at all. I wouldn't even give it one star on here, but of course, zero stars isn't an option. I picked up the book because the cover art intrigued me, and I thought a story about a little blonde girl who rides a dragon would be cool. When I started reading it, I immediately could see what was coming. I just knew. This would not be the mystical, uplifting, [...]

    21. 2.5 stars - SpoilersPretty good, but not quite as entertaining and magical as I thought it'd be.Was quite a cliched fantasy story, with Adara (the main character) being different from everyone else and an outsider in her family (as she was born in the long winter and thus loved winter and the cold, and was reserved and stoic) whilst the rest of her family were born in summer and were warm and loving in comparison. Anyway, Adara befriended an ice dragon who saved her and her family from war/fire [...]

    22. 3 stars for the story 5 stars for the illustrationsI'm really fond of dragons and the idea that George Martin could write children's stories aroused my curiosity and I have to admit that I was startled at first. I wasn't expecting the story to be this compelling. It was brilliant until the last chapter. the last few pages though, killed the mood. The idea of the wintry child as main character was magnificent but as Adara loses her own "magic" I lost my interest. I can't get over the fact that as [...]

    23. Other than talk of a few split heads, men fried to a smoking crisp and a daughter that's maybe a little too friendly when it comes to the lads, I may consider reading this to my soon to be eight year old daughter. After all, she's just a little bit older than our main character Adara and is also quite fond of a dragon or three as well.Overall a nice, quick easy read and illustrated by the extremely talented Luis Royo (check out his artwork if you haven't already), I'd recommend this to any Georg [...]

    24. This a little gem of a book! It's about a child Adara who was born in the coldest winter in memory. Her mother died in childbirth, and Adara is a winter's child. This basically means she has cold skin, can hang around outside in the cold without getting hypothermia and can touch ice lizards without burning them to death. It also means she has a special connection with an ice dragon. I read it last night when I was feeling pretty rotten but wanted something to entertain me. I've read a few review [...]

    25. This was brilliant, and hauntingly beautiful the kind that makes the hair on your arms stand up in the middle of the night. The cold did not bother her, for she was a child of Winter

    27. The Ice Dragon, by George R.R Martin, is a short, engaging, novel. The amazing illustrations make the book all the better. The characters were well written. They were not perfect but very believable. The main character, Adara, is a small child with a big heart. She loves her family but her ice dragon more. Adara is a winter child so she can’t feel the cold. Adara’s father is a beast of a man. He is like a grizzly bear and has the muscles of Thor. Though he does have a soft spot for his famil [...]

    28. Another delightful short story by Martin. I read this originally in Dreamsongs, but then my sister gifted me this illustrated edition for Christmas. This is a story targeted at younger readesr (10-12 year olds) but enjoyable for all. Martin captures the cold ingeniously - only Jack London does it equally as well. In this rural community, the ice dragon is a feared beast, untamed and lethal. It leaves a frozen desert in its wake, yet the young girl, Adara - a child born of winter - is not fearful [...]
