    1. Jordan Smithfield is orphaned and left to her own methods as she "fends" for food and supplies. She steals eggs twice from newcomer Cray McCormick's ranch. The second time he follows her to her shack and spanks her. Outraged, Jordan goes into town to see the sheriff claiming Cray attempted to rape her -- but her actions leaned to recently spanked by Cray. The town members loved Jordan, but no one took her in because of her temper. They saw Cray as an answer to their prayers. The preacher, mayor, [...]

    2. HOW JORDAN SMITHFIELD 'FENDED' A HUSBAND FOR HERSELFOh my, what a fun and entertaining story with a plot that kept the pages turning and me captivated as the entire story unfolds. Cray McCormick and Jordan Smithfield became victims of a shotgun wedding of sorts, courtesy of the upstanding town folks of Sutter's Corner. Jordan has been 'fending' for herself and most folks just allowed it. The problem with Jordan, she has no one, and no one ever stopped her, until Cray McCormick. Cray came westwar [...]

    3. There were no problems with Jordanis book is a fun, sweet read and I enjoyed it immensely. Jordan has had a difficult life that only gets worse when her aunt passes away and leaves her alone in the world. The townspeople, for the most part, like Jordan but not one of them steps up to help her and turn a blind-eye when she is forced to steal food or starve. When she ends up stealing from the wrong farmer she suddenly finds herself being forced into a shot-gun wedding with the newest bachelor in t [...]

    4. This was a very good read with a feel good factor. Jordy was left to "fend" for herself and resorted to stealing from a few neighbours who turned a blind eye. Nevertheless Cray accepted his responsibility once it was forced on him by the townsfolk. There were a few minor side stories but each seemed to have a moral and lessons to be learnt. Things were resolved in a decent manner. Even though Jordy had been stealing ("fending") she had been well brought up and was a fair and decent person. She r [...]

    5. 3 ½ -4 starsA cute story of Jordan, who was left to fend for herself when her aunt died, and Cray.Cray is forced to marry her when he spanks her for stealing eggs from his hen house. They both fall in love and it has a happy ending. Although there are severalspankings with hair brush, belt and hand…ere are no graphic sexual scenes. There is also mention of issues during the time, black vs white, slave vs freeman…Overall a sweet story.

    6. Sweet westernThis is a sweet western set soon after the Civil War. Jordan and Cray are forced into marriage by a town that wanted the best for their town waif. The two fall in love and the problem with Jordan was problems found her. Eventually things work out with the couple, the town and the help. Nice short read.

    7. Joannie Kay writes a sweet, witty and believable Western romance story. Cray and Jordan are forced into a shotgun wedding. Jordan has been taking care of herself since her Aunt died. Cray catches her stealing eggs and that's where the fun (and the spankings) begin. There are several side characters that keep those pages turning. I enjoyed the book. Very sweet.

    8. Romantic western!A heart warming western full of love and romance! Clay and Jordan meet under not the best of circumstances and they end up on a journey to love and acceptance. A great collection of supporting characters makes a western community come to life. Nicely done.

    9. “Dearly beloved,” the minister began. Cray glared at the man of the cloth, at the sheriff and all the townspeople who were forcing him to marry the little hellcat he’d caught stealing his eggs. If he’d known she was a woman, he never would have tried to spank her. But she’d been dressed in pants and a too-big coat, and had taken her last egg from his chickens. He’d cornered her once before, but she’d lied about her name and slipped past him. Then he’d tracked her to the rundown c [...]
