    1. What happens when a shipyard dog gets washed out to sea. When Spike is rescued by pirates after a couple of days floating around in a bucket full of garbage, he smells terrible. To earn his keep on the pirate ship he tells them he can sniff out treasure. What happens when Spike sniffs out everything but treasure. Sail away with Spike and Captain Fishbeard on this fun adventure. This is another great entry into the early chapter books, this one probably geared towards boys, especially reluctant r [...]

    2. What a fun elementary age read! I loved the color pages and can't wait to see the finished art work. Stinky Spike is brave and adorable. I'll be keeping my eye out for more Stinky Spike books in the future.

    3. Sailing the high seas has never been more fun than with Stinky Spike the Pirate Dog by Peter Meisel. Stinky Spike is an easy chapter book written in easy-to-read sentences that keep the action moving and excitement high for little readers.Spike does not begin his life as a Pirate Dog, nor is he always “Stinky Spike.” Instead, Spike is a shipyard dog with a “super sniffer.” He has the world’s most powerful nose. Spike loves the nastiest, ickiest, foulest stinks he can sniff. One morning, [...]

    4. Spike, who has a magnificent “super sniffer” of nose, is a dog who loves his work on the docks. While working hard to protect cargo from gulls and rats, he also revels in the stinky smells that surround him. One day as he is unloading a ship he slips and lands in the water. His only hope to be rescued may just be joining the Pirates to become Stinky Spike, The Pirate Dog!This illustrated beginning chapter book has kid appeal for early elementary readers all over it. The “Stinky” premise, [...]

    5. Spike has the best sniffer in the seven seas and it takes him all the way from the dock yard to a real treasure hunting pirate ship. In order to get home he agrees to help Captain Fishbeard and his crew find treasure. While they don’t always agree on what counts as treasure many interesting and smelly things are found.I absolutely adored this book. It is a fun little chapter book with detailed full color illustrations. The characters are wonderfully written and have the best names. It kept me [...]

    6. I received an ARC of this story at the ALA Midwinter Conference. When I go, I am always on the lookout for good early reader chapter books. Stinky Spike fits the bill. The story includes, dogs, pirates, stinky smells, and treasure: what's not to love? Young readers will enjoy reading this series, but it also works for those slightly older reluctant readers. Looking forward to more Stinky Spike adventures!

    7. I read this one with my 4 year old son and we read it all in one sitting. I'm always on the hunt for short chapter books with lots of pictures so I was excited to discover the Bloomsbury Read and Bloom Line. Since my son loves pirates, we obviously had to start with this series. The length was perfect and there were full color pictures on every pages that kept my son engaged. It was a simple, silly story that my son enjoyed and he learned a little bit of new sea vocabulary as well.

    8. Fun rollicking adventure on the high seas with Stinky Spike, the Pirate Dog, and his band of merry cohorts. Great colour illustrations and easier text are sure to be a hit with emerging readers who are ready for the next step after easy reader titles.

    9. Cute chapter book for kids just getting into longer books. About a dog who can sniff out treasure, who aligns himself with a group of pirates. Lovely full-color illustrations.* I read an ARC which also included the second book in this series, Stinky Spike and the Royal Rescue.

    10. Cheeky dog narrator, fun action & illustrations & characters & humor, all you'd want in a colored illustrated easy chapter book.

    11. Our first grader (7YO) loves this book. It was one that he could read without any assistance. He laughed, smiled and is already looking forward to the next one in the series.
