    1. Pete Barber naturally is a very talented author. This story shows how when one is injured at war in Iraq how one is effected by PTSD flashbacks and wild mood swings. In this sad story the husband becomes a danger to himself and others. In the research for this story, Pete read hundreds of first hand accounts written by caregivers, soldiers and veterans. Thousands of men and women muchof the pain and suffering illustrated in this story is a close reflection of their daily lives. I would like to t [...]

    2. What an awesome story. This book is about the love of our country, love for our husbands, wives and family. Husbands and wives support one another day and day out, but this brings attention to our soldiers lives, before and after deployment. Soldiers who have given themselves to this country, their wives sacrificing their husbands for this country and families that have sacrificed everything to support their soldiers for this country. And in turn, some who turn their backs on these selfless sold [...]

    3. MORE TRUTH THAN MIST PEOPLE REALIZEPete Barber gives us a story so real in detail and truth that it reads more like nonfiction than a novel. I believe that PTSD and other mental damages that are "unseen" are just as harmful to our returning soldiers as the physical injuries that are visible for the world to see. I have tremendous respect for those who risk their lives and limbs to defend our country. Unfortunately, the BIG brass, who often never experience the front line, except for photo ops, d [...]

    4. When A Warrior Comes Home shows the results of PTSD on military families, and how those members attempt to seek help for their loved one while the military attempts to cover or downplay the severity of the PTSD actions of the afflicted member. The most affected, and most overlooked, are how the children have to deal with not only losing a parent for the length of a tour, but how that tour affects the parent, changes them, because it always changes them even if in just a small way, that is not al [...]

    5. Although the author states that this book is fiction, I think some of the shootings and behaviors of many war veterans that occur are from their war experiences. I really think that a soldier's mind often remains in his training as a soldier. I think after being on red alert for so long it must be very difficult to try to adjust back to civilian life. Often these men and women are recruited very young, before they have had a chance to experience life as an adult. They are thrown into life and de [...]

    6. I have edited a book on combat PTSD by a psychiatrist and a chaplain/counselor, and I found the reactions of the warriors in this story consistent with the clinical descriptions of PTSD symptoms. The plot is an engaging one, and the characters are easy to care about.

    7. 5 starsWhat an awesome story. This book is about the love of our country, love for our husbands, wives and family. Husbands and wives support one another day and day out, but this brings attention to our soldiers lives, before and after deployment. 8. ShallowAn interesting and important topic: servicemen experiencing Post Traumatic Stress and its effect on their families. Unfortunately marred by oversimplification and crude characterisation. Even the wives are cliched: one blonde, one latina. There are no shades of grey in this book - despite sex being an important element of the plot. The "baddie" General, for example, is unremittingly ridiculous. The book makes an important point illustrating how PTSD and TBI can affect soldiers who outwardl [...]

    9. When a Warrior Comes Home is an intense page-turner. This is true of the war scenes, early in the book, and the intensity continues when the warriors bring the war home with them. It's populated with some great characters that you'll like or, when some of them aren't very likeable, you'll at least sympathize with them. While there is a lot more to the story, ultimately this book is about the human cost of war. Not the obvious, of lives lost on both sides, but of lives broken and the domino effect [...]

    10. Both harrowing and touching, Pete Barber's When a Warrior Comes Home is a gripping and suspenseful read. Taken from today's headlines, it's the story of a small group of men who have survived their deployment – sometimes several deployments – in the Middle East. Ironically, it is not their physical wounds that are most crippling, but rather their mental and emotional ones.Mr. Barber has an excellent ear for natural dialog, and he knows how to tighten suspense until the reader can hardly wait [...]

    11. Pete Barber has done an amazing job of capturing the difficulties experienced by the families of some warriors returning home. With a light hand the author presents the traumatic memories of the warriors of friends killed, the guilt they feel for surviving when some of their friends didn't and then paints the struggle of the families trying to help their warrior and understand what is happening -- while everyone dreams of returning to "life" as it was before--praying for the "old normal" that no [...]

    12. As compelling as it is somberHaving served my country I jumped at the chance when Pete Barber asked me to review his novel. The plot grabs you immediately and gives the reader a real world look at what service families go through. I was moved to tears yet felt comforted at the end of this brilliant read. I applaud Pete for pointing out what American and British troops have have to deal with. Soldiers are proud men who aren't necessarily going to ask for help. Pete's book highlights the need for [...]

    13. Good book, very good. I don't think you can say really that you like a book like this when it is about injustice and peoples well being. But I can say I would recommend this book to my family and friends. It is hard to believe yet we see it often how little is done for those who put their lives on the line for our freedom. And yet we pay professional athletes more money and give them more benefits the our military. It shows just how messed up our priorities lie. Thank you Mr. Barber yet another [...]

    14. First of all--WOW! This book is stunningly realistic in how it portrays the difficulties of family life after an overseas deployment. It shows the warrior's own struggles with PTSD and how any negative diagnosis can jeopardize a military career and retirement plans (pensions, medical care, etc). Mr. Barber also shows how the spouse and children struggle with their loved ones' spontaneous episodes of rage and violence. No one wants to walk on egg shells. Everyone craves normalcy, but there is no [...]

    15. When a Warrior Comes Home is not my normal genre, but I'm more than happy I read it. It made me feel and think, think about things I don't know very much about, but the more I read the more I wanted to. It made me want so much more for so many and I truly couldn't put it down until I was finished. The characters are very believable and I enjoyed getting to know them. Very happy I read this book!!!

    16. WowI have so few words for this eye opening, gut wrenching, and slightly amazing book. I have admit it sure made me cry wow just wow. It show the struggles both our soldiers and their families face both during deployment and when home. It is very much worth a read, beware you will CRY

    17. This one was a difficult read, with a good, and a realistic ending. PTSD is real. It is deadly, to the person with PTSD and to the family at times. Thank you to the author for bringing this to light in a good way. Well done.

    18. Worth the readA great, sad story. It is too close to reality. I needed a complete happy ending but received only half that. Get box of tissues and read this story.

    19. Great book really felt the struggle of the soldiers that come home and are sruggling to fit back into the life they had before they went to fight.

    20. Good writing & story. A novel with an important story. Deserves to be read widely to promote more understanding of this social issue.
