  • In a near panic I called out Uncle There was no response And then something stepped into the dry leaves no than a few feet away I reached underneath the edge of my sleeping bag where I kept the flashlight for easy reach and pressed the slide button The beam shot out immediately exposing a snaggle of spindly branches and shifting shadows I turned the light tow In a near panic I called out Uncle There was no response And then something stepped into the dry leaves no than a few feet away I reached underneath the edge of my sleeping bag where I kept the flashlight for easy reach and pressed the slide button The beam shot out immediately exposing a snaggle of spindly branches and shifting shadows I turned the light towards where the sound of steps had come from and lined up the Remington The tubular light beam seemed to be vacuumed up by the endless darkness I could see no further than a few feet past the first couple of trees They stood sullen and waiting like ancient sentinels watching over me as I slept I heard a quickened thumping of feet crunching on leaves I got up on one knee trying to hold the flashlight and rifle steady at the same time Suddenly a small figure burst through the darkness into the beam of light, nearly trampling over me like a crazed child On a cool autumn day in 1954, young James Peralta headed out on his first real hunting trip with his Uncle Philip in southern West Virginia The glorious Appalachians were their destination, deer and squirrel were their targets A fun and educational experience for James soon turns to tragedy as the two men realize they are not the only trackers in the woods Hunters become hunted in this horrifying second installment of Jason McKenney s short story series of Campfire Tales.

    1. Sorry, not really for me this one. Thought it was going to be scary, but I actu found it quite boring. It kept leading off on a tangent, telling different little tales that didn't re have any relevance to the story itself. And if I'm being honest, the first 40% could have been left out completely and the story probably would have benefited. It's free on so was worth a try for a quick free read I guess. All reviews can be found at lennonslair
