    1. I mainly knew who Amy Purdy was from her competing on DWTS, though apparently I somehow forgot I saw her on The Amazing Race. I remember the tape pieces from DWTS and thought it would be interesting to hear more about her story. I've read a number of celebrity memoirs and her memoir has become my favorite. Amy Purdy shares her story in a way that is informative but in a relaxed way of a friend sharing with a friend. Her book is also the first memoir where I found myself adding page tabs for quote [...]

    2. “I’d been ripped on and poked so much that I couldn’t take it one more time. I didn’t want her [the nurse] or my parents feeling sorry for me, so I shouted, ‘Just so you all know, I’m not crying because I’m sad! I just don’t want to be touched anymore!’” The minute I read those words from Amy Purdy’s On My Own Two Feet, I felt the page disappear and the black and white lettering that made up her story morphed into threads that connected her life with mine. No, I had not con [...]

    3. I watched Amy Purdy and Derek Hough every week, on Dancing with the Stars. They were truly amazing. I recently read a book by Derek Hough, and read what he said about his experiences with Amy Purdy. Amy has gone through such life altering challenges. She is an inspiration to many people. She had both of her legs amputated, had her spleen removed, and had a kidney transplant from her father. She wrote that we can take these changes, and make them into stepping stones towards our dreams. I'm givin [...]

    4. win. Will read and review once received.A great inspiring story. It was a little slow at the beginning and hard to get through during the beginning. But once I got so far in I was hooked and couldn't put it down. It was very interesting to read to see her struggles and accomplishments. I will be passing this book along.

    5. Although the story itself is very inspiring it was not well written at all. I felt like the last couple of chapters were written by someone else (maybe the co-author took over at this point). Amy has defied odds time and time again and is living life to the fullest. She is an inspiration!

    6. In a nutshell: Amy Purdy, a true born dreamer, lost her legs below the knee at 19 to a rare disease… but that didn’t stop her from going after what she wanted, like creating an organization for adaptive athletes, trying out acting, competing in Sochi, and competing on Dancing With The Stars, and this book proves that she will never stop dreaming and will continue to go after anything she wants, using this power to inspire others.Recommendation: Anyone and everyone should read this book. I am [...]

    7. “We can either see our circumstances as a set of random cruelties and then allow those hardships to turn us into bitter victims, or we can recognize the fact that, though we may never comprehend why hard things happen, they do, and when they do, we can reach for a larger purpose beyond the pain.” My first awareness of Amy Purdy was through Dancing With The Stars. I’ve always enjoyed the show and its many professional dancers, as well as their novice partners; enlivening dance recital memor [...]

    8. This is an amazing journey of a superpower woman who got her power when she lost her feet. #inspirational

Doch dank [...]

    11. You often read a book going into it thinking, well. I've picked up this book, it has a nice cover to it, I'm hoping it'll be interesting. I had no idea who Amy Purdy was, until I heard she was on DWTS. I had googled her up, and had found that she had lost both her legs, was dancing, snowboarded and somehow found a way to participate in the Paralympics which was kind of like the Olympics. I was just like, "Who is this awesome chick." I saw bits and pieces of her story on DWTS, so when I heard she [...]

    12. What an incredible story. Amy Purdy lost both her legs when she contracted bacterial meningitis. Shortly thereafter, she required an emergency kidney transplant as the disease had also corrupted her kidneys. While she was in the hospital and struggling to stay alive, Amy had a near death experience and was given a choice to either leave this world or return to life. If she chose to return, however, her life would have to have fuller meaning. Amy chose to stay alive. Throughout her ordeal, Amy al [...]

    13. Excellent read! I first heard about Amy's story during the Winter Olympics/Paralympics promos and interviews because I'm a nerd and follow that stuff like crazy. She has an amazing story to share and that's what got me interested in DWTS. I learned more about her through that show and could really relate to her attitude. It's the same way I try to approach life, although I'm not always quite successful at that. Anywho, I've been meaning to read this book for a while and finally got around to it. [...]

    14. An amazing story of courage and determination. Amy starts off describing her life before she lost her legs and the incident that caused that loss. She describes in detail what she went thru physically and emotionally. Nothing was easy and there were lots of complications. She had a lot of support from family and friends but in the end it was up to her to pull herself thru. It was interesting to see the connections she made with people and how they spawned other connections and helped her in her [...]

    15. After losing both of her lower legs, below the knee as a result of contracting bacterial meningitis in 1999, Amy Purdy has defied the odds and proven to herself and the world around you, that with love, gratitude, and perserverance, almost anything is possible. Amy is a Paralympic Snowboarder, model, actress, and motivational speaker. I really enjoyed reading about her story. Amy seems like an extremely dedicated and down-to-earth individual. On occasion, I found myself wiping a tear away from m [...]

    16. Amy's underlying story is very interesting and inspirational. Having seen her on Dancing with the Stars, I was very interested in her story. However, I don't consider this book to be very well-written. At points it just scratched the surface, and in other areas the heavy detail is not necessary. I did find the details about going from the paralympics to Dancing with the Stars very interesting - making her performance on that show even more remarkable. (It also gave me an even greater appreciation [...]

    17. novelsandnonfiction/2016/Amy was only a young woman of nineteen when bacterial meningitis led to the partial amputation of both her legs. Her harrowing illness led to a slow recovery that initially seemed to be within the norm – like any person would after such a traumatic change, Amy struggled with her image, her moods, and with finding the right prosthetics. Her incredible spirit showed through, however, in her ability to go further than most of us would ever dream in her place. Believe it o [...]

    18. Wowjust wow. This book was just hits you.A couple of friends of mine know the author and recommended it to me. I knew her story but to the depth that she tells it within the book is overwhelming to the point where I had to put it down to see if I was truly sitting there reading it or actually living those events.I would recommend this book to any athlete, any person dealing with a struggle that they feel is overtaking everything they are, any person who wants to know Amy's story, any person who [...]

    19. Won on Beautiful book! Encouraging and inspiring. Amy's life shows us all how to live with determination and purpose. This book will make you want to live your best life on your own terms. This book shows that no matter what circumstances we find ourself in we have the power to change our circumstances through sheer will and determination. Our attitude determines how we end up in life! 20. This is a very inspirational book. Amy Purdy went from being a pretty directionless teenager who suffered from bacterial meningitis and who almost died, to a medalist at the Sochi special Olympics. She lost both feet from the disease and her kidneys. After a transplant, she went on to be a finalist on Dancing with the Stars. It's an incredible story of near death followed by permenent handicaps that led to motivation and excellence that leave most of us in awe. It's a great book to get you motiv [...]

    21. As a young woman, Amy Purdy had both of her legs amputated, had her spleen removed, and had a kidney transplant from her father. She became well known for Paralympics snowboarding, being on the Amazing Race and Dancing with the Stars and talking with Oprah on Super Soul Sunday! The book is a little slow to begin, but it sets up the illness, challenge and accomplishments of her life. She has a remarkable positive attitude and ability to say, "yes, she can."If you are looking for an uplift in your [...]

    22. I saw Amy on Super Soul Sunday and within the first few minutes of her interview I ran to grab my Kindle and purchased her book. Wow. Just within the first few chapters I realized "wow, I complain and make a big deal about so much" and when you read a story like Amy's its a reality check that you could always be going through something else. I admired her courage and I love how much she bought up the word "gratitude" in the book. I think if you focus more on what you do have then what you don't [...]

    23. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was very encouraging and made me rethink how I approach life everyday. The first third of the book covers her life up to her illness. I thought that the book would spend too much time on the illness and not on her accomplishments. Boy, I was so wrong. It was very much about living in today and not focusing on what was missing. I had no idea that Amy was late to snowboarding and to accomplish what she did is amazing. This book will inspire you, encourag [...]

    24. After cheering for Amy in the Paralympics last year I was interested in reading her book. I was blown away from the very beginning. I could not put it down. Amy is an amazing role model of strength and good humor. She faced some of the most difficult challenges and kept fighting her way through them. As each chapter unfolded I was curious to see how she would handle the latest set back. Amy is human and had her struggles, but she faced each situation with such grace. I have been highly recommend [...]

    25. I had never heard of Amy Purdy until I read her story. Amy's awesome attitude and courage are incredible and she deserves 5 stars for living an inspiring life. For me the book itself was most captivating during her struggle with her sickness and her amazing recovery, and the latter part when she was on Dancing With the Stars. I was also quite touched by the role her Dad played in her recovery and the epilogue.

    26. Amy Purdy has led an inspiring life and overcome many challenges, the chief of which has been the loss of both of her legs beneath the knees. Despite her hardships, she learned not only to walk again, but to snowboard and danceeven dance with the stars! Through her foundation work, she was able to get snowboarding into the Paralympics and medaled in the Sochi games. She has chosen not to focus on what she can't do, but on what she wants to do and therein has pursued her dreams.

    27. I met Amy live when she spoke in Dillon, Colorado. I didn't know much about her, but thought that I would enjoy learning more after hearing her speak. It was hard to put the book down! I love stories about overcoming adversity. But the book is more than that. It shines the light on how much one can do in life with no excuses such as losing legs in her case. If you are looking for inspiration, this is the book to read next.

    28. I won this book in a giveaway. Amy chronicles her life from childhood, her near death experience, and the inspiring life she went on to live after she lost her legs. The tone of the book is very colloquial, but the main message of gratitude and fulfilling your dreams comes through on every page. I was captivated by Amy's story, and many times reflected on how to adopt her attitude towards life.

    29. I had not heard of Amy Purdy before reading this book. Amy survived meningitis when she was 18 years old but lost both feet as well as her kidney function. What she did with this trauma is totally awesome and overwhelming. I have heard others say they are not handicapped when they don't have some of the functions that most people have - Amy proves this in spades. I loved her thoughts of how do I want my life story to read. We should all have that thought in mind. Great story.
