    1. This author presents a magical story, with a lively goddess, the Unknown Mother, Matrina. She shows up to teach a vocalist (and the reader) about the power of sound. She details many facts about the energy of the throat chakra, as well as the energy of letters, words, and our unique, individual voices. More importantly, Matrina, the servant of Sacred Sound, challenges each of us to grow in our awareness of the spiritual impact of every utterance we make. In addition to this delightful goddess sc [...]

    2. The Unknown Mother: A Magical Walk with the Goddess of Sound is a timely contribution to the growing library of magical books that are being published at the moment. It is written as a novel and it is an easy read that keeps your attention from beginning to end. The Goddess is called Matrika and She is described as being the deity that presides over the sounds of language. She suddenly appears – literally – into the life of a struggling vocalist named Wrenne. The experience transforms her li [...]

    3. The majesty of the mystery of wordsWords are wonderful things. So simple. Yet when we start to look at what words mean and how they achieve meaning, they slip into a mystery. In The Unknown Mother, we learn of the mystery of words. Wrenne, a woman in the midst of life, has lost her faith. As she seeks for a deeper meaning, Matrina steps into her life from a reality just some way away.Matrina is a wonderful name. So simple. Yet the name is resonant of matrix, mater, matter, marine and much more. [...]

    4. This book, in tone and vocabulary, appears to be geared to the YA reader, especially given cultural references such as Harry Potter, Mary Poppins and Schoolhouse Rock used to illustrate points the author wishes to make. The language is superficial, and I found it rather unengrossing to the point where I was easily sidetracked (Oh,look. Matrina has a car - did she manifest it out of thin air, along with all the documentation at the Motor Vehicles Branch, and if she did hit the car that cut her of [...]

    5. Book Review originally published here: iheartreading/book-touThe Unknown Mother was an unique, thought-provoking experience. As a musician, I always thought I knew all about sound that there is to know. I was wrong. While the book presents us with a story of a struggling vocalist, and a mysterious woman named Matrina who appears on stage to help the vocalist find her true voice, it also teaches the reader a great deal about sound, the throat chakra, the healing powers of sound, and so on.Anyone [...]

    6. This book was fascinating. I had no idea there was so much to know and glean from sound. Dielle takes us on a journey guided by the all-knowing Matrina, a journey to heal and to understand. At first it's an introduction to sounds, voice and words. During the beginning of the book I found myself thinking back to the birth of my second son. I remember leaning against my bedroom wall and swaying through a contraction and making a deep, low moan. My midwife said: "That is a very helpful, healing sou [...]

    7. The relationship between sound and power/energy. The Unknown Mother presents the interaction between Wrenne and the sound goddess Matrika as a series of dialogues concerning the mysteries of sound and voice which allows the audience time to reflect on how we use them. Matrika’s name derives from “mother” and our mother’s heartbeat is the first sound we also identify her voice, so the relationship between Wrenne and Matrika is logical and enlightening. Ultimately this explores the relatio [...]

    8. There's an increasing (I have to say USA) pattern to personalise information. The 'facts' within this book could be written on one page. Instead we are given a 'story' with the writer taking a journey, with a spirit who just appears. My real problem is that chosen person seems to be very slow on the uptake. It all has to be explained in words of half a syllable. My frustration with this approach means that I've probably missed the essential tenets of the book.I'll wait until a spirit guide chooses [...]
