    1. When this book was created and published, we rather thought that the history of Colonial America was the history of European settlers. The story is told in the woodcuts and surviving maps, paintings and original newspaper stories. There is very little text, with emphasis on the rich and famous. The editor acknowledges this bias, since very little in the way of original items of known provenance survives from the poor and illiterate colonist.
