    1. Startling title, striking coverbut the novel itself isn't so remarkable. The problem is Blumenfeld’s prose, which is seldom more than functional. In this story of Alec – fed up with working for an East End tailor, fed up with being alone, fed up with the society that surrounds him – the writing rarely entertains and never surprises.
