    1. It took me several years to read Zen: The Perfect Companion by Seung Sahn. The book is a collection of 235 koans. They were gathered from a wide range of Zen traditions. It is a beautifully done book with every page of adorned with Chinese calligraphy. Each koan includes the Case, Notes and Commentary. I read them one at a time. Sometimes a day would pass, sometimes a week, before I read the next one. They were all beautifully irrational, subtle and mystifying.
