    1. A great satire in which Mortimer Thomson (Doesticks) takes a skewed view of American history (up until 1856). Written in the same verse meter as Longfellow's 'Hiawatha,' 'Plu-Ri-Bus-Tah' was immensely popular in its time. The narrative includes the personification of three American virtues (Liberty, Thrift and Peace) that accompany the founder of the nation (Plu-Ri-Bus-Tah), but when slavery is introduced into the land (in the form of 'sable Cuffee), the virtue Peace ups and leaves the country.
