August 2013.The introduction suggests a fairly narrow, yet possibly conflicted, view of what a novel should be, but the essays are interesting for some extra insights into the books.James Wood's piece didn't make me like Atonement more, but did leave me with greater appreciation for its construction - especially as a response to a 1935 Cyril Connolly essay. These are much like the academic introductions I'm used to in classics.
