    1. There's an interesting mix of bravado and introspection in these poems, which ultimately felt honest and real. I think there's an interesting interrogation of masculinity here, though I'm not sure that's exactly the point of these poems. There's a lot of just plain love here as well—love of family, romantic love, even self-love. I liked it. I'm interested to see what his next collection is like.

    2. Jon Sands is such an awesome performance poet.I think I would have enjoyed reading the book much more if I hadn't already seen him perform live.

    3. A working list of favorite lines from this book:"Thought he was the only one / wouldn't get dirty.""Do you / miss me? / Even when I don't know I'm doing it.""and you too drunk for no-health-insurance.""You are so / large, it must be me who does the traveling. But I return / to be lost in you.""that sounds very poetic. But it still doesn't help.""Do not tell me I have not been here--I am been here.""You are a shadow my body leaves on other girls.""My / whole body's inside akimbo. Ready to make mi [...]

    4. Jon Sands is my favorite read of the past year. Both funny and honest this book is a comfortable fit for everyone. this is a MUST READ. His publisher, Write Bloody, is managing to pump out the most exciting authors by far. I'd suggest Andrea Gibson's The Madness Vase and Mike McGee's In Search of Midnight: The Mike McGee Handbook of Awesome

Sometimes I felt like I was in the room next door listening to this party/swim/song -- that I was eavesdropping. Which was less fun, but still I wanted to be there. YES: "I can't believe something that doesn't matter / matters this much." (In "My Friend")Note: I read this whole thing again. It feels a little "new" -- as in not-quite-done, but I still loved [...]

    6. Reading The New Clean is entering into a conversation with Jon Sands. In the span of the conversation, you will laugh and sigh and sing and cry and often a mix of these things simultaneously, magically.
