    2. "Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune."This book (along with other books by Dale Carnegie) can be life-changing. The book takes the incessant problem of worry, head on. It says that of all the liars in the world most of the time it's our own fears and worries. Worry doesn't take away your troubles but it do take away your peace, that's the main message of the book. He starts very scientifically by searching the causes behind the worry [...]

    3. The advice Carnegie gives is all stuff you've heard before, but he pairs it with compelling stories about people who've taken the worrying to an extreme and who've totally turned their lives around by ditching their angst. Some of my favorite points:Fatigue comes from stress, not from work. Becoming wise is a path. As you go, remember that compassionate, considered responses make life more manageable.Contented life is a choice.

    6. I was so blue that I didn't have nice shoes to wear, and it was until I met a man on the wheelchair at the corner of the street. He didn't even have both legs. I helped him buy drink from the vending machine. I asked him if he was upset of sitting on the wheelchair every day. He smiled to me, "I used to be, but not now". "Do you think I can speak?", he asked me. That was a strange question. "We are talking right now", I replied unconsciously. "Do you think I can see you?", he continued. He made [...]

    7. I think the problem with this book is that it's mostly based on persuasive voice. Once the effects of that wear off, it's hard to be convinced to change an ingrained habit. Although, what helps is a desperation to do so.There are many examples in this book, but very little "this is why it works". Even more so, the further you go into it, the more the author sounds like "What's the matter with you? Don't you see? Why don't you do this?"; and I think, if this were a person-to-person argument, that [...]

    8. Fundamental Facts You Should Know About WorryRule 1 - If you want to avoid worry, do what Sir William Osler did" Live in "day-tight compartments." Don't stew about the future. Just live each day until bedtime.Rule 2 - The next time Trouble - with a Capital T - backs you up in a corner, try the magic formula of Willis H. Carrier:a. Ask yourself, "What is the worst that can possibly happen if I can't solve my problem?"b. Prepare yourself mentally to accept the worst - if necessary.c. Then calmly t [...]

    9. Wow this book is really good and deserves to be read a few times over your lifetime. The best thing about it is that it can be downloaded free legally since it is so old now that the copyright laws do not apply to it (or something) all you have to do is search for it on Google with something like "How to stop worrying and start living filetype pdf" and its yours to bind or read on a computer. Even if you feel that you do not need to worry you should pick up this book and keep it on the top of yo [...]

    10. - Advice - live in day-tight compartments. - Imagine the worst, accept it, and try to improve upon it. Then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. - Get the facts, analyze them, arrive at a decision, and act on the decision. You worry more when you don't know- what is the problem? What is the cause? What are all possible solutions? What solution do you suggest?- being busy leaves no time for worry- don't be bothered by the little things- cooperate with the inevitable. Bend like the wil [...]

    17. Gawd I am fascinated by the self-help genre. And here we have a founding father. GAWD his stridency. It's like listening to the ads in the back of comic books: Don't let the bully kick sand on you! Get muscles! Stay busy! Boot straps boot straps boot straps!!!!!!Yet I hear his sense: cut to the chase, stop spinning, look clearly, be unafraid.I would finish this, except it's making me nauseated. Maybe it's the "busy busy busy" section -- with the stories of those who dispelled worry by filling up [...]

    23. “No one living has enough emotion and vigor to fight the inevitable and, at the same time, enough left over to create a new life. Choose one or the other. You can either bend with the inevitable sleet storms of life—or you can resist them and break!” “Obviously, circumstances alone do not make us happy or unhappy. It is the way we react to circumstances that determines our feelings. Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is within you. That is where the kingdom of hell is, too.”“I spe [...]

    24. Life-saving! Everyone is stressed, right? It’s the world we live in. We all have problems and worries. This book will help you learn to better cope with worry, anxiety, and stress, which are damaging to health and well-being. The author uses anecdotes to teach how to combat worry, which keeps it interesting and compelling. Although this book was written long ago, it is not outdated at all– the principles still hold true. And the history presented through anecdotes is interesting– we get to [...]

    26. well, most of us worry about anything, why this why that, its sometimes normal to worry about the future but worrying about incident that happened years ago, that's an issue. phobia is creepy poison.

    27. FINALLY. I have finished this book. WHEW.The version I read of this book was published in 1944. I don't know if newer versions have been modified at all, or not.I would've given the book a five star rating if it hadn't been so completely TORTUROUS to get through the chauvinistic view points. Granted, most all of Carnegie's strategies for overcoming stress and worry were excellent and I plan to put many ideas to use, HOWEVER, the ideas presented in chapters like #25 titled: "How the Housewife Can [...]

    28. I read this in the late eighties together with the other Dale Carnegie book – How to Win Friends and Influence People. Among the basic techniques to avoid worrying is what everyone knows already – live each day until bedtime. My other favorites are the problem analysis technique (define the problem, its causes, possible solutions and choosing the best solution) and the always dependable – pray. The latter can be used to fill out thoughts with peace, courage, health and hope. It is the best [...]
